Eminem’s daughter was moved to tears by his new songs: ‘I didn’t know how difficult things were’
Eminem’s daughter has seen her father’s newest music video — but it will be her last time.
Hailie Jade, the 28-year-old daughter of the iconic rapper known for “Without Me,” revealed on her podcast “Just a Little Shady” on Friday that she wept while watching the video for his song “Somebody Save Me,” feeling it was too powerful to watch again.
“I watched it all the way through, and I don’t think I can do that again,” she shared. “I always cry whenever I hear it.”
This song is part of Eminem’s latest album “The Death of Slim Shady (Coup De Grâce),” where the Grammy-winning artist mentions his children directly and expresses regrets, admitting he doesn’t “even deserve to be called a father.”
“Hailie, I’m sorry / I missed your first guitar recital / Didn’t walk you down the aisle / Wasn’t there for the birth of your first child / Your first podcast, looking down sweetie / I’m so proud of the person you’ve become,” he raps.
In real life, Eminem and Hailie shared a dance at her wedding in May. The lyrics painted a picture where the rapper, who has been candid about his past issues with drug use, wishes he had never gotten sober.
The music video, which was released last week and features Jelly Roll, blends home video clips of Eminem’s children. He has Hailie with his ex-wife Kim Scott and has adopted Alaina and Stevie.
During her podcast, she mentioned that she “audibly sobbed” while listening to both “Somebody Save Me” and another new song by her dad titled “Temporary,” which he wrote for her to hear after his passing. “Hailie Jade, this song is for you / To help you cope now that I’m gone,” he raps in that piece.
“As I watched the video and listened to the songs, I realized my parents did an excellent job raising me, as I didn’t recognize how serious things were back then,” she reflected. “But now, as an adult, looking back, it’s terrifying to think about. That’s why I’m so emotional.”
She added, “If you’ve ever lost an addict or someone dear to you, my heart goes out to you.” Despite the emotional weight of it all, Jade described the “Somebody Save Me” video as “amazing” and enjoyed seeing memories of their younger days.
In another lighter song from “The Death of Slim Shady,” titled “Houdini,” Eminem humorously berates several individuals including himself and even refers to his “own kids,” calling them “brats.”
Eminem, who recently released “The Death of Slim Shady,” celebrated 16 years of sobriety last April. He has previously mentioned on the “Paul Pod: Curtain Call 2” podcast that he nearly died from a drug overdose in 2007, admitting at one point he was taking “75 to 80 Valium per night.”
In 2010, he told The New York Times Magazine that his children have been instrumental in keeping him sober, stating, “I love them so much, and they’ve supported me through so many challenges.”
