The Daily Money: Are new real estate regulations detrimental for Black buyers?
Happy Monday! I’m Bailey Schulz, welcoming you to The Daily Money.
There’s some positive news for drivers: Gas prices are on the decline.
The latest data from AAA indicates that the national average for regular gasoline was $3.35 per gallon on Monday, a decrease of around 17 cents from last month and nearly 50 cents from a year ago. Experts suggest that unless something unexpected occurs, prices should continue to drop for the rest of the year.
New real estate regulations could affect Black buyers negatively
Recently implemented regulations aimed at enhancing transparency in real estate have raised concerns that they may have an adverse effect on Black homebuyers.
Due to changes prompted by legal actions against the National Association of Realtors and major brokerages, it’s no longer presumed that sellers will cover the costs for buyers’ agents. This raises worries that Black buyers, who already face numerous challenges in the housing market, might be further hindered by needing to pay upfront for agent representation, or they might forego representation entirely in a complex and costly process.
Denise Franklin, a seasoned real estate agent in Greenville, South Carolina, expressed her worries: “I am concerned that there may be an increase in fair housing complaints and lawsuits.” You can find more on this story by real estate reporter Andrea Riquier.

Even though we still have a few weeks left of summer, coffee shops are already introducing their pumpkin spice offerings.
Last week, Starbucks rolled out its seasonal drinks, and Dunkin’ has teased updates to its menu as well. On Wednesday, Dunkin’ posted on Instagram hinting, “Apparently I’m not allowed to say when pumpkin arrives, but it rhymes with shmaugust shwenty shmeighth.”
Dunkin’ confirmed that its fall menu will debut on August 28 in an email, but did not reveal the specific items that will be included.
