Ex-Trump Official Cautions That He May Claim Election Was ‘Rigged’ Again
CHICAGO — Olivia Troye, who resigned from her national security post in the White House during Donald Trump’s presidency following the events of January 6, suspects that the former President will once again allege a “rigged” election in 2024.
“I have a clear memory of the 2020 strategy,” Troye told YSL News at the Democratic National Convention last week, expressing her serious concerns about the “real world consequences” that arise from false claims that the election was fraudulent. “He’s using similar phrases again.”
She also shared her apprehensions regarding the potential impact of another Trump term on the intelligence community.
During her time in the Trump administration, Troye was an advisor for national security and counterterrorism to former Vice President Mike Pence.
Trump’s fraught relationship with the intelligence community was well-documented throughout his presidency, and Troye witnessed many intense intelligence briefings firsthand.
In a surprising disclosure, Troye claimed that when Trump was presented with intelligence he found unfavorable, he would simply terminate the person who shared that information.
“Whenever someone provided an important briefing with genuine intelligence, particularly about foreign threats… he would undermine that individual,” explained Troye.
“I saw management figure out how to remove long-time colleagues of mine who were concerned about Russia’s actions and foreign meddling, yet he refused to acknowledge it.”
After a lengthy career in national security, Troye chose to leave the Trump administration in 2020.
In her address at the DNC, she acknowledged that choosing to support a Democratic candidate was a tough choice for a Republican eager to work in the White House, but she felt that backing Vice President Kamala Harris was “the right choice” as an American.
Troye was among various Republicans at the convention who voiced support for Harris while criticizing Trump, as the Harris campaign aims to attract moderate Republicans and independents who oppose Trump.
Other Republicans joining Troye at the DNC included former Rep. Adam Kinzinger, R-Ill., who was part of the House committee investigating Trump’s attempts to overturn the 2020 election; former Trump press secretary Stephanie Grisham; former Georgia Lt. Gov. Geoff Duncan, and Mesa, Arizona Mayor John Gil.
