Kerry Kennedy: Why Trump Contradicts the Kennedy Legacy

Kerry Kennedy Criticizes Trump: He Represents Everything Contradictory to Kennedy Family Values

Kerry Kennedy indicated her support for the Democratic ticket as a response to her brother Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s endorsement of Donald Trump.

On Wednesday night, Kerry Kennedy returned to her hotel in Las Vegas after a busy evening campaigning for Vice President Kamala Harris, the Democratic presidential nominee, and Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, her running mate.

As the daughter of former U.S. Senator Robert F. Kennedy and niece of John F. Kennedy, both of whom were assassinated, Kerry Kennedy expressed that her campaign activities were meant to counter her brother Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s recent endorsement of former President Donald Trump, who is running for the Republican nomination.

“I reached out to the campaign on Friday, saying I wanted to help. They asked if I could fly out to Phoenix on Tuesday morning, and that’s what I did. They then directed me to Nevada, and now I’m here,” Kerry Kennedy shared with YSL News. “There are countless Kennedys eager and ready to support this cause.”

Except for Douglas Kennedy, who works as a journalist, Kerry Kennedy stated that she represented all her siblings in expressing their disappointment with their brother’s support for Trump.

“Donald Trump embodies everything that is against our family’s beliefs. I completely reject everything Bobby is doing and saying, as it contradicts our family’s principles and everything that I’ve dedicated my life to,” Kerry explained. “Moreover, this is contrary to everything Bobby has stood for throughout his life.”

Robert F. Kennedy Jr., 70, is a prominent environmental lawyer who has championed water protection for over 30 years and led Riverkeeper, an organization focused on protecting the Hudson River. His endorsement of Trump, who has rolled back numerous environmental protections, has baffled his family.

In a virtual address, Kennedy Jr. mentioned his intent to remove himself from the ballot in about ten key states, “where my presence might spoil the election.” He proceeded to endorse Trump.

However, Kennedy Jr.’s efforts to withdraw his candidacy came too late: ballots had already been confirmed or the deadlines for removing his name had lapsed. As a result, he will still appear on ballots in states like Wisconsin and Michigan; also, North Carolina has absentee ballots featuring Kennedy Jr.’s name printed, which will start going out next week.

Recent polling from Ipsos shows Kennedy Jr.’s support at just 4%, and financial records reveal that his campaign is running low on funds. As of last month, his campaign owed nearly $3.5 million while having approximately $3.9 million in available funds.

Kerry Kennedy on Trump: A ‘Danger to Fundamental Rights’

Throughout his time as a third-party candidate, Kennedy Jr. has sparked controversy due to the conspiracy theories he has propagated, including claims that COVID-19 was engineered to target specific races and that prescription drugs are linked to mass shootings. This week, Trump included Kennedy Jr. in his transition team.

Kerry Kennedy asserted that Harris and Walz embody the principles her family has long fought for, unlike Trump, who she describes as their “polar opposite.”

“He poses a threat to the most fundamental rights and freedoms that define us as Americans,” Kerry Kennedy stated, mentioning that had her father and uncle been alive today, they would have vehemently opposed Trump.

“His dishonesty, selfishness, rage, cynicism, hatred, racism, fascist tendencies, and dissemination of false information about vaccines, combined with his criminal convictions,” she continued. “Kamala Harris can confidently confront someone who represents a danger to the rights of Americans.”

When asked about her last conversation with her brother, Kerry mentioned that he attended the wedding of her daughter and former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo in July. “We frequently text, and I reached out to him on Friday after his Trump endorsement.”

When queried about her brother’s situation, she replied, “I’m not a psychiatrist.”
