USC Rises, Oregon Drops from Top Five in Initial US LBM Coaches Poll of Regular Season
The inaugural US LBM Coaches Poll of the regular season has been released following some surprising outcomes in Week 1, resulting in a revised top five compared to the preseason rankings.
Georgia comfortably holds onto the No. 1 position, earning votes for first place from 52 out of 55 panelists after a commanding victory over Clemson. Ohio State maintains its No. 2 ranking, bolstered by a strong performance against Akron, securing three votes for first place. Texas climbs to No. 3, receiving the final first-place vote after shutting out Colorado State. Alabama also rises to No. 4.
The competition for the fifth spot is intense this week. Mississippi takes the fifth position, surpassing Oregon by just one poll point. The Ducks, who were preseason favorites at No. 3, drop to No. 6 after a lackluster performance against Idaho. Meanwhile, No. 7 Notre Dame is now close behind Oregon by just one point, following a road victory against then-No. 20 Texas A&M.
Penn State and Michigan swapped positions, with Penn State now at No. 8. Missouri moves up to No. 10, taking the spot left vacant by Florida State, which has fallen completely out of the rankings after suffering two defeats against ACC teams.
Southern California is the notable mover this week, jumping nine places from its preseason ranking to take No. 14 after defeating LSU. Miami (Fla.) also climbs four spots to reach No. 15.
Louisville and Washington make their way into the poll at No. 24 and No. 25, respectively. Florida State and Texas A&M have dropped out.
