Live Updates: Eagles vs. Packers – How to Tune In, Betting Odds, and Game Predictions for NFL Clash in Brazil
The NFL is steadily broadening its presence, whether marked on calendars or shown on maps.
After an exciting season opener where the Kansas City Chiefs triumphed over the Baltimore Ravens on Thursday night, the league is set to stage its first-ever regular-season game in Brazil this Friday. The Philadelphia Eagles will go head-to-head against the Green Bay Packers. This game is special not just because of its international location but also due to its unique timing, being only the 13th game played on this day of the week since 1970. Fans can expect engaging matchups on the field between two strong NFC teams and standout quarterbacks, Jordan Love and Jalen Hurts.
Stay tuned for updates on the game from YSL News Sports throughout the evening:
Inactives for Eagles and Packers
- Packers: WR Malik Heath, RB MarShawn Lloyd, DL Arron Mosby, DL Brenton Cox Jr., OT Kadeem Telfort, OT Travis Glover
- Eagles: QB Tanner McKee, CB Isaiah Rodgers, LB Devin White, OLB Jalytx Hunt, G/T Darrian Kinnard, G Trevor Keegan, DT Byron Young
Keep an eye on the Packers’ running game, as they might not have enough depth behind starter RB Josh Jacobs. With AJ Dillon now placed on injured reserve with a stinger, Lloyd, a third-round pick from USC, was expected to step up as the main backup. This could lead to Emanuel Wilson, a young player who rushed for 85 yards on 14 carries last season as an undrafted free agent, playing a crucial role.
How Eagles QB3 Tanner McKee Became a Media Favorite in Brazil
SÃO PAULO, Brazil – The Eagles held a press conference for Brazilian reporters Thursday, featuring key players such as quarterback Jalen Hurts and running back Saquon Barkley. However, it was third-string quarterback Tanner McKee, who has yet to play in an NFL game, that captured the spotlight.
McKee is already quite popular in Brazil due to his nearly two-year mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints from 2018 to 2020, during which he became fluent in Portuguese. He wowed the media when he responded to a question in Portuguese and translated his answer into English, even though the NFL had arranged for a translator.
The exchange unfolded like this after a reporter asked a question: McKee addressed about 50 media members, saying, “Do you want me to answer in Portuguese?”
Where Will the Eagles-Packers Game Take Place?
The game will be held at Corinthians Arena in São Paulo. Opened in 2014, this venue was used during that year’s World Cup and primarily serves as the home stadium for São Paulo’s top soccer club, “Corinthians.”
This arena has been adapted to host this evening’s NFL event, expected to draw a sellout crowd of over 45,000 fans. Although the stadium accommodated more than 60,000 during the World Cup, temporary seating was removed after the tournament ended.
“I couldn’t be more thrilled to be here,” commented Eagles coach Nick Sirianni via NBC Sports Philadelphia during the team’s walkthrough Thursday. “This is my first international trip as a coach, and I’m excited to play in front of such passionate fans.”
Why Are Some NFL Games Only Available for Streaming?
NBCUniversal will expand its reach among American sports viewers during the first weekend of the 2024 NFL season with three games over four nights on its platforms, including the streaming service Peacock.
“Sports play a crucial role in Peacock’s identity,” noted media analyst John Kosner to YSL News Sports.
After the season opener between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Baltimore Ravens is broadcast on NBC, the Eagles versus Packers game will be streamed exclusively on Peacock. The weekend concludes with the Los Angeles Rams taking on the Detroit Lions in “Sunday Night Football” on NBC.
“This strategy is likely part of the NFL’s plan to maintain momentum,” Kosner remarked.
The return on investment for Peacock and other streaming services remains uncertain, with fellow streaming analyst Dan Rayburn suggesting that the NFL’s strategies may negatively impact casual fans who prefer simpler game access.
“The NFL is more fragmented compared to other sports leagues, primarily due to financial motivations,” Rayburn explained to YSL News Sports. “That’s really the crux of the matter.”
Peacock reportedly paid $110 million for last season’s wild-card playoff game between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Miami Dolphins. This year, the exclusive streaming rights for a postseason game went to Prime Video for $120 million, while Netflix invested about $150 million for two games on Christmas Day, which this year falls on a Wednesday.
“Given that the NFL is the top television content in our country, the investment clearly has merit,” Kosner stated.
But how does this impact fans—both casual and hardcore?
