Stellantis Issues Recall for More Than 1.2 Million Ram 1500 Pickup Trucks in the U.S.

Stellantis recalls over 1.2 million Ram 1500 pickup trucks in the U.S.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has announced a recall affecting 1,227,808 Ram 1500 trucks from 2019, as well as from 2021 to 2024, due to a software issue reported by Stellantis, the parent company of Chrysler.

This software issue may prevent the anti-lock brake system (ABS) controller from operating correctly, which can lead to the disablement of the electronic stability control system. A disabled stability control system could raise the risk of an accident while driving.

Moreover, Stellantis will also recall 7,299 MOPAR ABS units that were supplied as replacement parts for the affected vehicles.

“FCA is not aware of any related injuries or accidents,” said Frank Matyok, a Stellantis spokesperson, in a statement provided to YSL News. “In compliance with regulations, impacted customers will receive notifications via first-class mail. The company encourages all affected customers to follow the provided instructions.”

The NHTSA has pointed out that the Ram 1500 does not meet the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 126, which relates to ‘Electronic Stability Control Systems.’

To fix the issue, dealerships will update the software on the ABS control module at no charge. Recall notices are expected to be mailed out on October 3. Vehicle owners can reach FCA US, LLC customer service at 1-800-853-1403, with this recall identified as number 85B.

Vehicles affected by the recall:

  • 2019 Ram 1500
  • 2021-2024 Ram 1500

Matyok noted that more Ram 1500 trucks are being recalled in several other countries as well:

  • Canada: 158,670 vehicles
  • Mexico: 13,419 vehicles
  • Other global markets: 61,072 vehicles
