Kendrick Lamar to Headline Super Bowl Halftime Show in New Orleans in 2025
Kendrick Lamar is gearing up for the Super Bowl.
The acclaimed rapper, who is 37 years old, will take the stage at the 2025 Apple Music Super Bowl halftime show. He announced this exciting news on Sunday through a YouTube video featuring him on a football field beside a large American flag.
“Hello, I’m Kendrick Lamar, and I will be performing at Super Bowl LIX,” he stated in the video. “Will you be there? I hope so.”
Confirmation came from Roc Nation, Apple Music, and the NFL via a press release, accompanied by a promotional poster shared on X that depicts Lamar seated on a football field.
“Rap music remains one of the most influential genres today,” Lamar expressed in a statement on Sunday. “I’ll be there to show the world why. They chose the right artist.”
Seth Dudowsky, the NFL’s head of music, remarked, “Few artists have made as significant an impact on music and culture as Kendrick Lamar.” He added, “Time after time, Kendrick has shown his exceptional ability to create moments that resonate, redefine, and ultimately shake the very essence of hip-hop.”
Lamar was part of a star-studded lineup during the Super Bowl halftime show in 2022, which featured Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Eminem, Mary J. Blige, and 50 Cent.
This performance comes at a significant time for Lamar, who has been in the spotlight due to a high-profile feud with Drake. The two artists have exchanged insults in a sequence of diss tracks, including Lamar’s “Not Like Us,” which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 and is nominated for Song of the Year at the upcoming 2024 MTV Video Music Awards. Lamar recently performed the hit song multiple times during a Juneteenth concert in California.
The rivalry intensified in March when Lamar appeared on Future and Metro Boomin’s song “Like That,” dismissing the notion of a “big three” in rap that includes himself, Drake, and J. Cole, declaring, “It’s just big me.” Drake retaliated with diss tracks, including “Taylor Made Freestyle.”
Lamar is a 17-time Grammy Award winner. The Super Bowl halftime show was most recently held in 2024 by Usher, who was supported by Alicia Keys, H.E.R., will.i.am, Lil Jon, Jermaine Dupri, and Ludacris.
Super Bowl LIX is scheduled for February 9, 2025, at the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans.
