‘It just went from 0 to 60’: Tyreek Hill opens up about run-in with Miami police
Tyreek Hill, wide receiver for the Miami Dolphins, expressed concern over what might have transpired during a recent encounter with law enforcement on Sunday morning if he hadn’t been a notable sports figure.
In a Monday night interview with NBC Nightly News, Hill stressed that he was compliant with the police when they stopped him while heading to Hard Rock Stadium.
“If I wasn’t Tyreek Hill, I can’t even imagine,” the All-Pro wide receiver remarked. “In the worst-case scenario, I might have been shot or jailed, you know, just for a simple speeding ticket.”
Recently released body-camera footage reveals a swift and intense scene where Hill was stopped for speeding, brought to the ground, and handcuffed. The clip also portrays Hill voicing his knee discomfort while teammates looked on, offering assistance.
“It escalated from 0 to 60 the moment they pulled up behind me and knocked on my window,” Hill described.
The incident has prompted an internal investigation by the Miami-Dade Police Department, leading to at least one officer being placed on administrative leave.
Hill’s attorney from Atlanta, J.B. Collins, issued a statement on Monday indicating that the legal team is “looking into all possible legal actions” and labeled the police actions as “excessive.”
