A man crashes pickup truck onto Colorado Buffaloes’ football field
A 48-year-old man drove a pickup truck through a gate at the University of Colorado’s Folsom Field on Thursday night and onto the football field, eventually surrendering to police, as reported by Boulder, Colorado’s police department.
Ironically, his movements on the field were possibly more effective than the Colorado Buffaloes’ running game under coach Deion Sanders. The Buffaloes (1-1) are currently at the bottom of the national rankings for rushing yards per game (37.5), a position they also held last year.
Boulder Police stated that multiple traffic incidents are being investigated, all linked to the same driver who accessed the football field.
“Witnesses reported seeing a man in a blue pickup truck involved in at least two hit-and-run accidents, hitting trees and signs before fleeing,” Boulder Police explained. “Attempts by witnesses to prevent him from leaving included one incident where a person was nearly struck by the truck. The driver continued, hitting another vehicle and more trees.”
Authorities tried to stop the driver, but he managed to escape. However, he was located near Folsom Field shortly after.
The suspect has been identified as Karl E. Haglund, 48, from Massachusetts. Police indicated he will face several charges, including attempted vehicular assault, reckless endangerment, trespassing, evading police, and leaving the scene of a crash.
The Colorado football team, which plays its home games at Folsom Field, won’t be there this week. Instead, the Buffaloes will play against Colorado State at 7:30 p.m. ET on Saturday, broadcast on CBS.
