Joanna “JoJo” Levesque has opened up about the support she received from Selena Gomez during a challenging chapter in her life and career.

In a sneak peek of her memoir, “Over the Influence,” which was shared with People magazine, JoJo reflected on her tumultuous career journey, mentioning the encouragement from Gomez and another fellow pop star.

JoJo recounted a memory: “For Galentine’s Day, Selena invited me over to Taylor Swift’s house for a celebration. Taylor had set up an arts and crafts area where we took fun pictures and filled out a cute questionnaire about our best and worst traits, what we were looking for in a partner, and why we were single right now.”

She explained that she met Gomez through their mutual friend Francia Raisa, who is well-known for donating a kidney to Gomez, and the three of them began spending time together.

After a decade-long break, JoJo released her first album in 2016, emerging from a prolonged struggle to exit her contract with Blackground Records. Later, in a piece for Motto, she expressed that early in her career, she felt like merely a product, and recounted how the head of her former label once told her that losing weight was “for her health.”

JoJo shared that Taylor Swift was “incredibly sweet and complimentary,” seeming genuinely pleased that Gomez had invited her to the gathering. She recalled Swift expressing her disapproval of the legal issues JoJo was facing.

JoJo wrote in her memoir: “I’m not sure if she knew what was happening from social media or if I told her, but she made it clear she was on my side and believed in me.”

She added, “I valued Taylor’s uplifting words; however, it felt like everyone else at the party looked at me with sympathy, as if they thought I might never escape my situation or that it might be too late for me.”

The “Leave (Get Out)” artist revealed that at times she felt a sense of jealousy towards Gomez, noting how overwhelming her level of fame appeared.

She described how Gomez couldn’t go anywhere without a security team and was constantly surrounded by fans. This lack of freedom made JoJo think that being in Gomez’s shoes might feel stifling.
