Fantasy Football Injury Update: Status on McCaffrey, Brown, and Others for Week 2

We have only completed one week of NFL games this season, but the injury list is already starting to fill up as we look ahead to the Week 2 matchups on Sunday.

The most significant injury news this week comes from the San Francisco 49ers, who will place running back Christian McCaffrey on injured reserve due to a calf/Achilles issue. He is expected to be out for at least the next four weeks.

Meanwhile, Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver A.J. Brown will also be missing this week after experiencing hamstring tightness during Friday’s practice. The Eagles officially ruled him out on Sunday ahead of the 1 p.m. games, meaning he won’t participate in the upcoming “Monday Night Football” game against the Atlanta Falcons.

Here’s the latest injury information on some of the top fantasy football players as we approach Week 2:

Christian McCaffrey Moves to IR

After missing the opening game of the season, the 49ers have decided to place McCaffrey on injured reserve due to a calf/Achilles injury. He will be out for at least four games; however, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport suggested he could require up to six weeks to recover from Achilles tendinitis.

A.J. Brown Excluded from Monday’s Game

The Eagles’ top receiver felt tightness in his hamstring during Friday practice and missed Saturday’s session while he recuperates. On Sunday, he was officially ruled out for the “Monday Night Football” matchup against the Falcons.

Evan Engram’s Hamstring Injury Causes Game Absence

Jacksonville Jaguars tight end Evan Engram sustained a hamstring injury during warmups before the game against the Browns and will not participate in today’s matchup.

Puka Nacua and Marquise “Hollywood” Brown Join McCaffrey on IR

Los Angeles Rams wide receiver Puka Nacua (knee) and Kansas City Chiefs receiver Marquise Brown (shoulder) were also placed on injured reserve this week, meaning both will miss at least four weeks.

Nacua, who sprained his PCL during the Rams’ Week 1 victory over the Lions, might be sidelined for about five to seven weeks.

Reports on Saturday indicated that Brown might end up not playing at all this regular season, as he is set to undergo surgery on Monday for a sternoclavicular injury.

Additional Key Players Listed as “Doubtful” for Sunday

Dallas Cowboys tight end Jake Ferguson (knee), Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Tee Higgins (hamstring), and Seattle Seahawks running back Kenneth Walker (oblique) are all doubtful for their games on Sunday after failing to practice throughout the week.

Browns Tight End David Njoku Out Against Jaguars

Njoku has been unable to practice all week as he recovers from an ankle injury and has been officially ruled out for the game against Jacksonville. Jordan Akins, a seven-year veteran, is expected to take over as Njoku’s backup.

Packers Quarterback Jordan Love Out vs. Colts

Initially marked as “questionable,” the Packers have since downgraded Love to “doubtful” on Saturday, confirming that he will not participate against the Colts in the Packers’ home opener. Malik Willis, who joined the team during the offseason, will start in his absence.

Vikings WR Jordan Addison Out Against 49ers

The second-year receiver did not practice this week due to an ankle injury and will miss Sunday’s home opener for the Vikings against San Francisco. Brandon Powell is expected to step into the No. 2 receiver role in his absence.

Other Players Listed as Questionable for Sunday

The following players are marked as “questionable” on their latest injury reports but are likely to play:

  • Packers WR Jayden Reed
  • Bears WR Rome Odunze
  • Lions WR Jameson Williams
  • Chargers WR Josh Palmer
  • Panthers TE Tommy Tremble

As of Sunday morning, all other players with “questionable” status are likely to be game-time decisions. This group includes players such as Steelers quarterback Russell Wilson, Bears wide receiver Keenan Allen, and Colts wide receiver Josh Downs.
