Flappy Bird Makes a Comeback in 2025 After a Decade Off: “I’m Rejuvenated and Ready!”

Flappy Bird Set to Make a Comeback in 2025 After a 10-Year Break: ‘I’m Revitalized’

Flappy Bird will be re-released on iOS and Android next year following its removal from app stores by developer Dong Nguyen in 2014, citing concerns over its addictive nature.

Flappy Bird is making a return to iOS and Android devices after a 10-year absence, featuring various new characters and game modes.

The beloved mobile game is scheduled to relaunch in 2025, as highlighted in its trailer and website. Following its massive success post-launch in 2013, the game was removed from the App Store and Google Play in 2014 by its creator, Dong Nguyen, who claimed it was becoming excessively addictive.

Nguyen explained in a 2014 interview with Forbes, “Flappy Bird was intended to be played in short sessions when you’re relaxed. Unfortunately, it turned into an addictive game. This became problematic, and the most effective solution was to take Flappy Bird down. Now, it’s gone forever.”

However, the Flappy Bird game is not truly “gone forever” as the Flappy Bird Foundation, formed by devoted fans, has secured the official trademark from Gametech Holdings LLC, as reported by IGN and Engadget. Over the past decade, Nguyen either lost or transferred the rights to Gametech Holdings LLC.

Nguyen, who previously revealed earning $50,000 daily from ads, has kept a low profile since withdrawing his game from digital platforms.

Flappy Bird’s Comeback Trailer Released

The Flappy Bird Foundation released a one-minute trailer on Wednesday, teasing fans about the new features.

“We are thrilled to be reviving Flappy Bird and bringing a fresh experience that will keep players entertained for years,” said Michael Roberts, the creative lead for the game’s return. “We have exciting plans for our beloved Bird!”

New Features in the 2025 Flappy Bird Version

As per the Flappy Bird website, players can engage with entirely new characters like Trixy, a three-eyed bird, Peng, a penguin, Quirky, a bird with a unicorn, and Tekno, a robotic bird.

The game will also offer various modes, such as a basketball shooting game, an intense competitive mode, and a practice mode.

“Just a decade ago, I was a sensation, flying high with my 100 million friends,” reads the game’s website. “Unfortunately, I had to step back from fame to discover my true self. Thanks to my amazing Flappy Bird fans, I’m rejuvenated and ready to take flight once more. My decade-long journey involved legally reclaiming my rights and collaborating with my predecessor to set me free and bring the official Flappy Bird back!”
