Authorities confirmed that a second person has died following a shooting at a tailgate event for a Detroit Lions game at Ford Field near Eastern Market on Sunday.

Detroit’s Police Chief James White reported that the shooting occurred after a confrontation between two men intensified at a building known as Shed 6 in the outdoor market.

A man in his 40s from Detroit was killed, and a second male in his 20s was critically hurt and subsequently passed away, according to police spokesperson Dayna Clark, who did not specify the timing of the second death.

White mentioned that police have taken into custody a man in his 30s who is permitted to carry a firearm.

The Eastern Market is a well-liked destination for tailgating among Detroit Lions supporters, attracting hundreds of fans during home games. On Sunday, the Lions faced off against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at 1 p.m.

“Tailgating, alcohol, and firearms are a dangerous combination,” White stated.

The altercation escalated around 4:30 p.m., when the two individuals squared off, leading the suspect to draw a weapon and fire multiple shots, according to White.

Family and friends of the victims are organizing a vigil at Shed 6, where the incident occurred, at 7 p.m. on Monday.
