Taco Bell Secures Permanent Taco Tuesday Celebration with National Taco Day Shift

Taco Bell Moves National Taco Day to Always Be on Taco Tuesday

With no legal boundaries now around the term ‘Taco Tuesday’, Taco Bell and the National Day Calendar have decided that National Taco Day will consistently be celebrated on Taco Tuesday, starting next month.

Remember the excitement surrounding Taco Tuesday? Now, Taco Tuesday will have an annual slot on the calendar thanks to National Taco Day.

The “Taco Tuesday” trademark was previously owned by Taco John’s. However, in July 2023, Taco John’s gave it up amid disputes regarding who should own the name. Just two months prior, Taco Bell had initiated an online petition to release the “Taco Tuesday” trademark so that all restaurants could use it “to make, sell, eat, and celebrate tacos.”

Now, Taco Bell has collaborated with the National Day Calendar to ensure that National Taco Day, earlier recognized as a whimsical holiday on October 4, will now always be celebrated on the first Tuesday in October.

When Will National Taco Day Be Celebrated?

The National Day Calendar, responsible for tracking national celebrations, has officially shifted National Taco Day from October 4 to the first Tuesday in October.

This year, that means National Taco Day falls on October 1, coinciding with the ultimate Taco Tuesday. “Taco enthusiasts can now rest easy knowing that the national holiday has found its permanent and correct place,” said Marlo Anderson, founder of the National Day Calendar.

The National Day Calendar team listened to many taco fans who expressed their desire for National Taco Day to always fall on a Tuesday, and Taco Bell took notice and acted.

“Fans online were asking why National Taco Day only aligned with Taco Tuesday every five to six years,” Taco Bell’s chief marketing officer, Taylor Montgomery, shared with YSL News. “We realized the significance of National Day Calendar, and advocated for one of the biggest taco celebrations to always be on the best taco day of the week – now we celebrate National Taco Day on Taco Tuesday every year going forward.”

‘A True Change for Taco Lovers Nationwide’

The decision made perfect sense, according to Anderson. “It’s rare for a national holiday to be reassigned, but when taco lovers from around the country voiced their wish to celebrate a taco holiday on Taco Tuesday, we had to respond,” he noted.

Anderson praised Taco Bell for its ongoing commitment to “drive real change for taco lovers everywhere. National Taco Day is now officially on Taco Tuesday from this point forward!”

Taco Bell’s Montgomery also mentioned that the chain plans to “celebrate with our fans on Tuesday, October 1,” hinting that taco deals will be announced shortly.
