C.J. Gardner-Johnson Calls Out Derek Carr and Saints Following Eagles’ Nail-Biting Victory

C.J. Gardner-Johnson openly criticizes Derek Carr and the Saints following Eagles’ narrow victory

The Philadelphia Eagles secured a 15-12 win against the New Orleans Saints on Sunday, signaling the arrival of C.J. Gardner-Johnson’s post-game commentary.

During the match, Carr completed 14 of 25 passes for 142 yards, threw one touchdown, and ended the game with an interception thrown to Eagles safety Reed Blankenship while trying to tie the score.

When questioned about the interception, Gardner-Johnson remarked, “We knew (Carr) was going to give us one all day.”

After spending three seasons with the Saints—who drafted him in the fourth round—Gardner-Johnson was traded to the Eagles before the 2022 season. He had a standout year in Philadelphia, tying for the league lead with six interceptions. Although he signed with the Detroit Lions for the 2023 season, an injury limited his playing time, but he returned in time for a playoff run to the NFC Championship Game.

“They got rid of me,” he stated regarding the Saints, adding, “I (didn’t) get rid of them.”

Gardner-Johnson dismissed the notion that the Saints, who came into the game with the top offensive statistics over a small two-game sample, were any real threat.

“Still got 16 weeks to go,” he said, noting his performance that included eight tackles (five solo) and a pass breakup.

After their performance against the Minnesota Vikings, where the Eagles secondary struggled to close out the game, this matchup was crucial for proving their capabilities.

“We keep receipts,” Gardner-Johnson declared.

The safety also criticized the Saints’ conduct during the game. Commenting on a hit that sidelined Eagles wide receiver DeVonta Smith early in the fourth quarter, he remarked, “that’s the dirtiest (expletive) I ever saw in football.”

“For them to take a cheap shot on one of our key players shows what kind of team they are,” he continued, calling them “frontrunners.”
