Veep Cast to Reunite for a Special Democratic Fundraiser Hosted by Stephen Colbert

The ‘Veep’ cast will gather for a Democratic fundraiser with Stephen Colbert

The actors from HBO’s “Veep,” along with late-night host Stephen Colbert, are set to participate in a virtual table read for the Democratic Party of Wisconsin on September 29. This type of fundraiser has historically raised millions for the party in previous election cycles.

The event will feature main cast members from the political satire series, including Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Tony Hale, Anna Chlumsky, Reid Scott, and Timothy Simons. The show has been likened to Vice President Kamala Harris’s rise to becoming the Democratic presidential nominee, which has led to an increase in viewers revisiting the series.

The cast will read through the episode titled “Crate,” in which the fictional Vice President Selina Meyer learns that the president is resigning and she will be stepping in.

The state Democratic party has previously hosted events featuring the “Veep” cast in 2020 and again in 2022 alongside “The West Wing” cast. The popularity of the party’s virtual events soared during the pandemic, including one featuring the cast of “The Princess Bride.”

It’s understandable why celebrities would select Wisconsin for this type of event; it is one of the key battleground states crucial for determining the presidential election outcome. According to the latest Marquette University Law School poll, Harris leads Trump by four points in Wisconsin, although this is within the margin of error.

Additionally, Wisconsin now has new legislative maps that Democrats are hopeful will encourage higher voter turnout.

“As a fan of ‘Veep’ and someone who is passionate about voter turnout in Wisconsin, I want to do my part,” Colbert said in a statement from the party. “Plus, I’m looking forward to meeting Julia Louis-Dreyfus. She seems really nice.”

To obtain tickets for the event, individuals must make a donation of any amount to the state Democratic Party.
