WASHINGTON — An agent of the Secret Service has been put on administrative leave following allegations of sexual assault against a staff member of Vice President Kamala Harris during a recent trip.

This incident, which the Secret Service is currently investigating, reportedly took place last week in Green Bay, Wisconsin. It was during preparations for a Harris campaign event that, in the end, did not occur, as first reported by Real Clear Politics.

It’s important to note that the aide involved works for the office of the vice president rather than the Harris campaign.

According to Real Clear Politics, the agent had dinner and consumed alcohol with Harris staff at a local restaurant after work hours. Subsequently, the agent went to the hotel room where the aide was staying, where the alleged assault took place. Others were reportedly present during the incident.

A spokesman for the Secret Service stated to YSL News that their Office of Professional Responsibility “is looking into allegations of misconduct involving an employee,” emphasizing that “The Secret Service maintains strict standards for its personnel. The employee is on administrative leave while the investigation is ongoing.”

A representative from Harris’ office declined to share further details but confirmed that the Secret Service had notified senior officials in her office about the allegations.

“The Office of the Vice President prioritizes the safety of our staff,” the spokesperson remarked. “We maintain a strict no-tolerance policy for sexual misconduct. Senior officials in the OVP were informed by the USSS about an agent’s involvement in this incident and were assured that an investigation had been initiated.”

This incident arises amid heightened scrutiny of the Secret Service, which recently faced criticism for its failure to prevent a gunman from shooting multiple rounds at former President Donald Trump during a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, an event that resulted in injuries to Trump and the death of a bystander.

A recent Senate report highlighted that the agency’s “issues with planning, communication, security, and resource allocation” during the rally were “foreseeable, preventable, and directly associated with the assassination attempt.”
