The controversy began a few days ago when it was rumored online that Whole Foods was “discontinuing” their Berry Chantilly cake. This cake is a delicious vanilla creation layered with fresh fruit, berry compote, and cream cheese mascarpone, available both by the slice and as a whole cake.
A TikTok user named Lisa sparked the conversation by posting a video that quickly went viral, expressing that she received “the worst news ever” about Whole Foods discontinuing the beloved cake.
However, the news was even worse than that. A Whole Foods employee disclosed that the new Berry Chantilly cake slices were now delivered frozen and lacked any fruit in the middle. Plus, Lisa mentioned the new versions are also more expensive.
“Whole Foods if you see this, I’m really really disappointed. I think all of America is disappointed and you should reverse your decision,” Lisa remarked.

Whole Foods confirms change in Berry Chantilly Cake recipe
Whole Foods confirmed to YSL News that they are not discontinuing the Berry Chantilly cake or any cakes sold whole or by the slice in their bakeries nationwide.
However, they have indeed changed the recipe for the Berry Chantilly cake, which the grocery chain confirmed on Friday.
“Previously, our by-the-slice Berry Chantilly cake varied by store location,” Whole Foods Market stated. “We have recently standardized the flavor, size, packaging, and pricing so that customers can expect the same high-quality experience in all of our stores.”
While there are some differences between the single slices and the whole cake, particularly regarding the berry arrangement, Whole Foods reassures that both versions still retain the signature almond flavor and light, fluffy texture that customers love about the original Berry Chantilly cake.
The grocery chain has not addressed rumors about the cake being frozen or if it costs more now.
The Berry Chantilly cake has been a staple for around 20 years and is available year-round, unlike other seasonal cakes like the Mango Yuzu and Figgy Foggy Chantilly.
