WASHINGTON − Former President Donald Trump stepped up his criticism of Vice President Kamala Harris on Sunday, erroneously labeling both her and President Joe Biden as “mentally disabled.”

At a rally in Erie, Pennsylvania, Trump stated, “Biden has become mentally impaired, which is sad. But lying Kamala Harris? Honestly, I think she was born that way. There’s something off about Kamala.”

During a speech in Wisconsin the previous day, Trump used similar language, frequently referring to Harris as “stupid,” “weak,” and “dumb as a rock” throughout his campaign events. He has also criticized her background, falsely asserting that she “turned Black.”

Democrats and some Republicans believe Trump’s remarks reflect his growing anxiety about polling data that shows Harris ahead in both national and key state races.

Former Maryland Governor Larry Hogan, a Republican and anti-Trump candidate for the Senate, condemned Trump’s comments as “outrageous and unacceptable.”

“I’ve already criticized him for questioning her racial identity, and now he’s attacking her mental fitness,” Hogan expressed. “That is not just insulting to the Vice President, but also to those who actually live with mental disabilities.”

Among Trump’s loyal supporters, the common response to inquiries about his latest comments is to focus on the issues facing Americans, particularly the economy and immigration. Senator Lindsey Graham from South Carolina remarked to CNN that while Harris is a “crazy liberal,” the priority should be to highlight how her policies are harming the nation.

Representative Tom Emmer from Minnesota stated on ABC, “We should keep our attention on the issues. Donald Trump resolved this once. They damaged it. He will fix it again.”

Trump has acknowledged that his recent speeches have taken on a more negative tone, filled with severe criticisms aimed at migrants and exaggerated claims regarding crimes associated with undocumented individuals.

“This is a dark speech,” Trump told attendees Saturday while reiterating similar comments about Harris and undocumented immigrants at a gathering in Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin.

In response to Trump’s statements, Harris’s spokesperson Sarafina Chitika said that the former president “is finally revealing the truth to voters: he has nothing ‘inspiring’ to present to the American public, only despair.”
