Donald Trump’s GoFundMe for Hurricane Helene Victims Surpasses $2 Million

WASHINGTON – A crowdfunding campaign initiated by former President Donald Trump to support those affected by Hurricane Helene has officially collected over $2 million as of Tuesday.

The fundraiser was established by Meredith O’Rourke, who serves as the national finance director for Trump’s campaign. She had previously created a similar fundraising initiative during the summer for the victims of a shooting that occurred at Trump’s rally in Butler, Pennsylvania.

Trump’s campaign representative, Steven Cheung, confirmed to YSL News that the GoFundMe page is authentic and has the former president’s endorsement.

The campaign has garnered over 14,000 contributions, including a notable $500,000 donation from former Republican Senator Kelly Loeffler of Georgia, as detailed on the fundraising page.

The fundraising page states, “All donations will be directed to assist those severely impacted by Hurricane Helene. Every act of kindness will significantly aid your fellow Americans in distress.”

Hurricane Helene has devastated southeastern states, including North Carolina and Florida, resulting in over 100 fatalities and leaving millions without electricity. Some regions in western North Carolina recorded more than 30 inches of rain, leading to the destruction of homes and entire communities.

During a recent trip to Valdosta, Georgia, Trump made an inaccurate statement suggesting that Republican Governor Brian Kemp of Georgia had been unable to contact President Joe Biden regarding relief operations.

However, Kemp clarified on Monday that he had indeed spoken with Biden the previous day, during which the president asked the governor, “’What do you need?’”

Kemp added that Biden offered to assist with any additional needs by encouraging him to call directly if necessary, which Kemp appreciated.

Biden plans to visit North Carolina on Wednesday, and Vice President Kamala Harris, who is also running for president against Trump, will be visiting the impacted areas as well.

Harris attended a briefing at FEMA headquarters in Washington, D.C., on Monday.

“In the past few days, our country has faced significant destruction and devastation,” she noted. “We have mobilized our most capable teams to respond to the crisis.”
