The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has announced a recall involving over 27,000 Tesla Cybertrucks related to an issue where the rearview camera might not function correctly.

Tesla is recalling 27,185 of its 2024 Cybertruck model. According to the NHTSA report, the company indicated that “the rearview camera image may be delayed after shifting into reverse.” A delayed or non-functional rearview image could prevent drivers from seeing what is behind their vehicle, thus raising the risk of accidents, the report adds.

Moreover, the NHTSA highlighted that the Cybertruck does not meet the standards set by Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 111, which pertains to ‘Rear Visibility.’

To resolve this problem, Tesla has issued an over-the-air software update for the affected vehicle owners, which will come at no cost. Recall notification letters are expected to be mailed out by November 25. Owners can reach Tesla customer service at 1-877-798-3752, mentioning recall number SB-24-00-016.

Tesla Cybertruck faces two recalls recently

In August, the NHTSA revealed that the 2024 Tesla Cybertruck was under recall due to a truck bed trim that might detach, alongside a malfunction with the front windshield wiper.

The NHTSA’s report mentioned the recall of 11,383 Cybertrucks, explaining that the trunk bed trim sail applique could have not been properly secured, leading to a potential detachment. If the trunk bed trim separates, it could pose a danger to other drivers, thereby increasing the risk of an accident.

Regarding the front windshield wiper issue, Tesla recalled 11,688 Cybertrucks. The company stated that excessive electrical current might cause the windshield wiper motor controller to fail. A malfunctioning windshield wiper could impair visibility for the driver, elevating the risk of a crash, as noted in the NHTSA’s report from June.

Notification letters concerning this recall were set to be sent on August 18, according to the reports.
