New York Mets outfielder Brandon Nimmo experienced a heartbreaking moment.

Following the Mets’ impressive 4-2 comeback victory against the Milwaukee Brewers on Thursday, amidst the celebratory atmosphere filled with champagne, Nimmo revealed to reporters that he had just learned about his grandmother’s death roughly an hour before the game.

“It really makes you realize that you can’t take any of this with you when you’re gone,” Nimmo expressed. “The experiences and moments like these – that’s what life’s really about.”

Nimmo shared that he hadn’t informed anyone else on the team yet and that his grandmother had been hospitalized the day before.

Nimmo contributed significantly with a crucial hit during the Mets’ rally in the ninth inning, which assisted in setting up Pete Alonso’s decisive three-run homer, marking New York’s first postseason series win since 2015.

“My grandmother and grandfather used to watch every game,” Nimmo remarked, acknowledging that he was grateful to have spent time with his grandmother recently.

“To score four runs in the ninth inning and come back, I know she would have been thrilled and cheering for us,” Nimmo added, as reported by the New York Post.

The 31-year-old Nimmo was the Mets’ first-round draft pick in 2011 and signed an eight-year contract worth $162 million with the team after the 2022 season.

New York is set to compete against the Philadelphia Phillies in a best-of-five series in the National League Division Series starting Saturday.
