The impact of Hurricane Helene has resulted in significant loss of life and devastation across Florida, Georgia, the Carolinas, and Tennessee, after striking Florida on September 26. Although it has been downgraded to a tropical depression, the storm has claimed hundreds of lives, left millions without electricity, and caused damages estimated to be in the billions.

 

The confirmed death toll rose to 214 as of Thursday, following updates from officials in the Carolinas, according to an analysis by YSL News Network. The level of destruction faced by western North Carolina is the worst seen in over a century. Reports indicate that 108 people lost their lives in North Carolina, with 72 deaths occurring in Buncombe County alone, as noted by the Asheville Citizen-Times. South Carolina recorded 41 deaths, Georgia 33, Florida 19, Tennessee 11, and Virginia 2.
