Stellantis issues recall for almost 130,000 Ram 1500 trucks due to turn signal issue

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has announced a recall for nearly 130,000 Ram 1500 vehicles due to a malfunction in the turn signal system.

Stellantis, which is the parent company of Chrysler, is recalling 129,313 units of their 2023-2024 Ram 1500 trucks. According to a report from the NHTSA, the issue is that “the turn signal self-canceling feature may not work as intended.” This could lead to drivers being unaware that they are not signaling their intention to turn, increasing the risk of an accident.

Furthermore, the NHTSA indicated that the Ram 1500 does not meet the standards set forth in Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 108, which addresses lighting and reflective devices used in vehicles.

Frank Matyok, a spokesperson for Stellantis, stated, “An investigation prompted by customer complaints found that certain Ram 1500 trucks from the 2023 and 2024 model years might have steering column control modules that don’t meet specifications, causing the self-canceling turn signal feature to fail.”

Matyok also mentioned that there have been no reports of any injuries related to this issue.

To address the problem, dealers will inspect the steering column control module and replace it if necessary, at no cost to the owners. Recall notification letters are expected to be sent out by October 29. Owners can reach out to Chrysler customer service at 1-800-853-1403, with the recall identified by number A1B.

“It’s worth noting that the turn signals on these vehicles can still be manually turned off,” Matyok added.

He provided information on the distribution of recalled vehicles in different countries as follows:

  • Canada: 22,005 vehicles
  • Mexico: 1,914 vehicles
  • Other international markets: 10,572 vehicles

Recalled vehicles (totaling nearly 130,000):

  • 2023-2024 Ram 1500

Jeep Cherokee and Wrangler hybrids recalled due to fire danger

Besides the Ram 1500, other models made by Stellantis are also part of a recall.

Chrysler has reported to the NHTSA that it is recalling approximately 154,032 vehicles in the U.S. due to potential risks with high-voltage batteries that might fail and cause fires.

A Monday statement from Stellantis confirmed that there have been 13 incidents of fires in parked vehicles connected to this issue. They estimate that about 5% of the affected vehicles might have a defect.

Dealers are set to update the software of the high-voltage battery pack and replace the entire battery pack assembly if needed, at no cost to consumers. Recall notifications will likely be sent out by October 17. Vehicles previously recalled for the same issue under NHTSA Recall 23V-787 will also require the new remedy.
