Jabrill Peppers, a captain for the New England Patriots, was detained by police on Saturday in Braintree, Massachusetts, facing charges related to assault and drug possession.
Law enforcement responded to a report of a disturbance early Saturday and found two individuals involved in an altercation. As a result of their investigation, Peppers, aged 29, was taken into custody, while another person at the scene required assistance from emergency services.
Peppers, who has been dealing with a shoulder injury, was initially listed as questionable for the upcoming game against the Miami Dolphins, but he was officially ruled out on Saturday.
The player is set to appear in court on Monday. He will face charges of assault and battery, assault with a deadly weapon, strangulation, and cocaine possession.
The Patriots issued a statement saying, “We are aware of an incident involving Jabrill Peppers over the weekend that is currently under police investigation. No further comments will be made at this time.”
This marks Peppers’ third season with the New England team after spending three years with the New York Giants and two years with the Cleveland Browns.
