Captain of the New England Patriots, Jabrill Peppers, entered a not guilty plea on Monday to felony charges of assault and strangulation related to a reported domestic violence situation that occurred over the weekend.

The criminal complaint obtained by YSL News Sports states that a woman, who claimed to be Peppers’ girlfriend, reported to the Braintree, Massachusetts police that he “smashed my head against the wall” and choked her “at least six times” during a dispute at his residence early Saturday. She further alleged that the 29-year-old safety pushed her down the stairs while trying to force her to leave the apartment.

In later statements to authorities, Peppers refuted these allegations, asserting that he did not “put his hands” on the woman, which includes pushing or choking her. According to him, she fell down the stairs because of her intoxication, as mentioned in the criminal complaint. He faces felony charges of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, alongside strangulation, as well as a misdemeanor for assaulting a family or household member.

Moreover, he has been charged with misdemeanor possession of cocaine after a small bag of white powder was found in his wallet during his arrest. When questioned about the substance, Peppers allegedly acknowledged that it was cocaine, according to the criminal complaint.

During his arraignment at Quincy District Court on Monday morning, Peppers pleaded not guilty. The judge mandated that he refrain from any contact with the woman and set his bail at $2,500. His next court date is scheduled for November 22.

Although the eighth-year safety opted not to comment to local media as he exited the courthouse, his lawyer, Marc Brofsky, stated that they have acquired evidence, including video footage, which “completely contradicts the alleged victim’s account.”

“I anticipate my client will be fully exonerated,” Brofsky expressed, referring to video shared on social media by The Boston Herald.

Peppers is currently in his third year with the Patriots, following three seasons with the New York Giants and two with the Cleveland Browns. He was initially listed as questionable for a game against the Miami Dolphins due to a shoulder injury but was ruled out of the game on Saturday.

In a statement, the Patriots acknowledged they are aware of an incident involving Jabrill Peppers over the weekend, which is currently under police investigation, but have opted not to provide additional comments for now.

During a radio interview with WEEI in Boston, Patriots coach Jerod Mayo mentioned that Peppers informed him about the arrest on Saturday morning.

“I was aware of the situation,” Mayo commented. “We have notified the NFL, and we are still in the process of gathering information.”

NFL spokesperson Brian McCarthy stated via email that the league is aware of the situation and is in contact with the Patriots but abstained from further comments.
