Colleen Hoover’s ‘Reminders of Him’ to be adapted into a movie
There’s more to come from Colleen Hoover’s stories in cinemas.
According to reports from Variety and Deadline, Universal Pictures is set to release a film inspired by Hoover’s bestseller, “Reminders of Him.” The book, published in 2022, follows Kenna Rowan as she tries to reconnect with her 4-year-old daughter after spending five years in prison.
The synopsis notes, “The only person who hasn’t entirely shut the door on her is Ledger Ward, a local bar owner and one of the last connections to Kenna’s daughter. However, if anyone finds out how Ledger is gradually becoming a key part of Kenna’s life, both could face losing the trust of their loved ones.”
“They develop a bond despite the challenges, but as their romance flourishes, so does the danger. Kenna needs to find a way to rectify her past mistakes to create a future filled with hope and healing.”
YSL News has contacted Universal Pictures and Hoover’s representatives for more details.
Hoover will co-write the screenplay for “Reminders of Him” alongside Lauren Levine and also take on a producing role. Unlike her previous work, “It Ends With Us,” she did not receive a credited role in the script, which was penned by Christy Hall.
Hoover expressed her enthusiasm about collaborating with Universal, saying, “I’m excited to bring Kenna Rowan’s journey to the screen. Many readers tell me they relate to her story of navigating tragedy and the difficult process of healing and starting anew. ‘Reminders of Him’ is very special to me.”
The announcement of the film comes on the heels of the success of “It Ends With Us,” the first movie adaptation of one of Hoover’s popular novels. This film, featuring Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni, made a remarkable $344 million globally, as per Box Office Mojo, generating further interest from studios in adapting Hoover’s other works.
However, the film also faced some backlash, especially criticisms directed towards Lively for allegedly not addressing the themes of domestic violence earnestly during promotional interviews. There were also unverified rumors of conflict between Lively and Baldoni, who directed the film.
Which other Colleen Hoover adaptations are upcoming?
Following “It Ends With Us,” which received its sequel titled “It Starts with Us” in 2022, it remains unclear if a film adaptation of the sequel is being planned. Baldoni previously mentioned to Entertainment Tonight that if a sequel were to be made, Lively should take the directorial role.
Alongside “Reminders of Him,” at least two other novels by Hoover are in line for movie adaptations: “Verity” and “Regretting You.” In August, Hoover revealed on “Watch What Happens Live” that she had “just read the script” for “Verity” and was “excited” about it. According to Deadline, the film version of “Regretting You” will feature Allison Williams, Mckenna Grace, Dave Franco, and Mason Thames.
