49ers Triumph Over Seahawks in ‘Thursday Night Football’: Key Moments

The Seattle Seahawks’ quarterback Geno Smith threw an interception that wasted a promising start for his team. Unfortunately for Seattle, things mostly went downhill from that moment.

The San Francisco 49ers defeated the Seahawks, 36-24, in the Week 6 matchup of “Thursday Night Football” airing on Amazon Prime Video. Rookie defensive players for San Francisco, Malik Mustapha and Renardo Green, both recorded their first interceptions at crucial times. The 49ers’ offense showed a striking improvement, achieving their highest scoring game of the season.

Beyond the impressive performances of the two rookie defensive backs, it was the 49ers’ strong running game and effective pass-catching that shone brightest.

Running backs Jordan Mason and Isaac Guerendo totaled 172 yards on 19 carries. Wide receiver Deebo Samuel had another stellar performance, notching a 102-yard game with three catches, including a touchdown. Tight end George Kittle made five receptions for 58 yards, finding the end zone twice.

The 49ers (3-3) have moved into first place in the NFC West with this victory.

Highlights, analysis, and more are provided by YSL News Sports from the Week 6 “Thursday Night Football” clash between the Seahawks and 49ers.

Highlights from 49ers vs. Seahawks

49ers 36, Seahawks 24: San Francisco Seals the Game with Key Play

In their next possession, rookie running back Isaac Guerendo exploded for a 76-yard run, positioning the 49ers deep in Seahawks territory at the 5-yard line. Soon after, fullback Kyle Juszczyk powered through for a touchdown run, extending the 49ers’ lead to 36-24 with just over a minute remaining.

49ers 29, Seahawks 24: Seattle Makes a Comeback

Seattle found new life when Geno Smith connected with Tyler Lockett for a 9-yard touchdown on fourth down. With under two minutes to go, Seattle narrowed the gap to five points, opting for a normal kickoff rather than an onside kick.

It’s 29-24 in favor of the 49ers with 1:44 still to play.

49ers 29, Seahawks 17: Kittle Strikes Again

Following Renardo Green’s interception, Brock Purdy linked up with George Kittle for a nine-yard touchdown pass, threading the ball skillfully between two Seahawk defenders. This added six points for the 49ers, making it 29-17 with just over six minutes remaining.

Renardo Green Records First Career Interception

Renardo Green joined Malik Mustapha as the second rookie in this game to capture his first career interception, intercepting Geno Smith’s pass directed at DK Metcalf and giving the 49ers a golden opportunity deep in the red zone with less than eight minutes left.

Injuries to Deebo Samuel and George Kittle

Midway through the fourth quarter, both Deebo Samuel and George Kittle found themselves on the sidelines due to potential injuries. Samuel seemed to hurt his hand during a halted play, but returned just after sitting out one play. Kittle sat out for an additional play but also quickly got back in.

Stay tuned to YSL News Sports for any injury updates regarding these pivotal 49er players.

49ers Ahead by Six Going into the Final Quarter

Seattle is set to receive the kickoff at the start of the fourth quarter after forcing a three-and-out from the 49ers following Kenneth Walker’s touchdown. They are just one touchdown away from taking the lead in the NFC West.

49ers 23, Seahawks 17: Kenneth Walker Scores

The Seahawks orchestrated a 13-play drive spanning 94 yards, culminating in Kenneth Walker’s 1-yard touchdown run. With the successful extra point by Jason Myers, the 49ers’ lead is reduced to 23-17.

Geno Smith Hits Tyler Lockett Deep

After struggling for much of the game, Smith finally connected with Lockett on a deep pass for 37 yards, shifting the momentum as they moved into 49ers territory late in the third quarter.

Jordan Mason Headed Back to the Medical Tent

After initially returning from a shoulder injury, Jordan Mason’s comeback was cut short as he returned to the medical tent following just one carry in the second half.

49ers 23, Seahawks 10: Laviska Shenault Scores on Kickoff Return

Laviska Shenault redeemed himself for a previous fumble by sprinting through the 49ers’ kickoff coverage team for a stunning 97-yard touchdown return early in the third quarter.

return touchdown, helping to bring Seattle’s score closer at 23-10 with 10 minutes left in the third quarter.

Shenault’s kickoff return for a touchdown marks the second such occurrence in the NFL this season, following changes to kickoff rules in the offseason. The first kickoff return touchdown was achieved by DeeJay Dallas of the Arizona Cardinals in Week 1 against the Buffalo Bills.

49ers 23, Seahawks 3: Brock Purdy connects with George Kittle for a touchdown

Brock Purdy delivered an accurate pass to his tight end, completing a 70-yard drive for the 49ers with a touchdown. The 10-yard completion to George Kittle was Purdy’s second touchdown pass of the match, pushing San Francisco’s lead to 23-3.

The third-year quarterback has completed 11 out of 17 pass attempts for 178 yards and has thrown two touchdown passes. He boasts a passer rating of 138.8 just five minutes into the second half. Kittle leads the 49ers’ receivers with four catches and 49 receiving yards so far.

Jordan Mason returns after locker room visit

Jordan Mason, who had to leave the field at the end of the second quarter due to a shoulder issue, is back for the second half. He managed a nine-yard run on the 49ers’ first play of the third quarter before heading back to the sidelines.

The Amazon Prime Video broadcast highlighted the running back tending to his shoulder while observing the game from the sidelines.

49ers 16, Seahawks 3: Seattle finally scores before halftime

DK Metcalf was unable to secure a touchdown catch as he failed to keep both feet in bounds on a crucial play just before halftime. Thus, the Seahawks opted for a 20-yard field goal to finish the first half, successfully scored by kicker Jason Myers, reducing Seattle’s deficit to 13 points.

The San Francisco team is set to receive the kickoff for the second half.

49ers 16, Seahawks 0: Matthew Wright stays perfect with field goals

Matthew Wright, who was signed just before the game, is leading the scoring for the 49ers with two and a half minutes remaining in the first half. His third field goal increased his tally to 10 points for the evening (including an extra point), further extending San Francisco’s lead to 16-0.

Jordan Mason injured and exits to locker room after run

On the second play during the 49ers’ third drive of the second quarter, Jordan Mason ran up the middle for 14 yards. After the play, he remained down, clutching his shoulder. He was eventually able to stand and exit under his own power but was escorted to the locker room by medical staff.

Amazon Prime Video sideline reporter Kaylee Hartung reported that Mason’s issue is shoulder-related and that he is questionable to return.

Rookie Isaac Guerendo has stepped in to take over the running back duties.

49ers 13, Seahawks 0: Matthew Wright scores again

The 49ers were unable to capitalize fully on advantageous field position following a kickoff fumble. The Seahawks’ defense limited the 49ers to just six yards, forcing them to attempt a 41-yard field goal.

Matthew Wright successfully kicked his second field goal, expanding San Francisco’s lead to 13-0. Seattle’s offense is now set to take the field with just under 12 minutes left in the half.

Laviska Shenault fumbles after the next kickoff

Following the kickoff, the 49ers seized possession at the Seahawks’ 30-yard line after Laviska Shenault mishandled the football. Although Wright’s kick went into the end zone for a touchback, Shenault attempted a return instead.

Second-year cornerback Darrell Luter Jr. forced the fumble, which defensive lineman Robert Beal recovered.

49ers 10, Seahawks 0: Deebo Samuel increases the lead

Samuel capitalized on a misjudgment in coverage on a delayed fade route near the left sideline. A mistake by a Seahawks defender allowed the open receiver to make the catch, after which the speedy Samuel sprinted 76 yards for a touchdown.

Wright’s extra point was successful, and San Francisco’s lead grew to 10-0 just one and a half minutes into the second quarter.

49ers ahead after the first quarter

The only scoring difference so far is Wright’s field goal during the opening quarter. Aside from the 49ers’ 90-yard drive for a field goal, the two teams have combined for two punts and an interception, stalling their other three drives.

The Seahawks currently have possession and will continue their drive as the second quarter begins.

49ers 3, Seahawks 0: Newcomer Matthew Wright scores his first points

After signing journeyman kicker Matthew Wright on Tuesday due to Jake Moody’s high ankle sprain from the previous week, the 49ers saw Wright contribute immediately. When their drive stalled near the eight-yard line of the Seahawks, he secured a 25-yard field goal to get the scoreboard moving for his new squad.

Wright briefly joined the 49ers’ practice squad in September 2023 but did not play until this game. His last regular-season outing was with the Carolina Panthers during their final game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers last year, where he missed his only kick, a 52-yard attempt.

Jordan Mason makes a significant run

Mason, who has taken the lead in San Francisco’s running backs with Christian McCaffrey out due to an injury, continues to perform strongly this season. He got an inside handoff and powered through a few tackles on a run up the middle, gaining 38 yards before Seattle safety Julian Love managed to bring him down, pushing the 49ers to the Seahawks’ 28-yard line and closing in on the red zone.

Malik Mustapha intercepts Geno Smith to finish the opening drive

On the sixth play of Seattle’s initial drive, Geno Smith’s pass intended for Tyler Lockett deep downfield was overthrown on third down. 49ers rookie safety Malik Mustapha intercepted the throw, ending the Seahawks’ opening drive.

In his second career game, he became a hero by intercepting a pass from Smith just inside the 2-yard line. However, his momentum carried him out of bounds afterward. This marked the first interception of his NFL journey.

Now, the 49ers will begin their initial offensive series of the night from their own 3-yard line.
