Ole Miss Issues Statement on Allegations of ‘Faked Injuries’

The Ole Miss football team acknowledges that there are discussions regarding accusations of players faking injuries.

This season, there has been a lot of chatter about players pretending or overstating injuries to gain an upper hand. For defenses up against a fast-paced offense, a strategically timed cramp can prove beneficial. Calling injury timeouts can disrupt an offense’s momentum, allowing defenses to regroup.

However, this tactic can also be advantageous for the offense.

Ahead of their upcoming big match against LSU on Saturday (7:30 p.m. ET, ABC), Ole Miss addressed the issue in a news release on Friday.

“The topic of feigned injuries has gained attention in college football, and we acknowledge that our program is part of that conversation,” stated the release. “We have communicated with the National Coordinator for Football Officiating and shared relevant medical information for his evaluation to address queries regarding recent injuries. Additionally, we have informed the SEC office, and our head coach will engage with our coaches and players to ensure proper conduct and compliance regarding this matter.”

Online criticism has been directed at Ole Miss for causing 11 injury stoppages during their Week 6 game against South Carolina. Coach Shane Beamer of the Gamecocks expressed skepticism regarding the situation. The Rebels faced similar backlash when they played against Kentucky.
