The Texas vs. Oklahoma football rivalry is one of the most intense contests in college football.

This passionate rivalry was on full display during the 120th edition of the Red River Shootout at the Cotton Bowl this past Saturday.

After the top-ranked Longhorns cruised to a 34-3 victory over the Sooners, Texas defenders Anthony Hill Jr. and Barryn Sorrell took advantage of the moment by laying a Baker Mayfield No. 6 Oklahoma jersey at the 50-yard line. They proceeded to plant the University of Texas flag right through the jersey, symbolically claiming the Cotton Bowl for themselves.

“It just felt like the right thing to do,” Hill Jr. commented after the game. “I had seen all the things they (Oklahoma) posted last year, so I wanted to give them a taste of their own medicine.”

This victory for Texas was significant because it was only their second win in the last seven seasons against Oklahoma, and just the second time in three years that they have triumphed in this rivalry. Notably, it also marked the first time since 2009 that the Longhorns have started their season with a perfect 6-0 record, as highlighted by the Austin American-Statesman.

Hill Jr. put forth an impressive performance on Saturday, registering 11 tackles—the highest of the game—and achieving two sacks, resulting in a loss of 8 yards. He also forced a fumble during the second quarter by stripping the ball from Oklahoma quarterback Michael Hawkins Jr. during a scramble.

Additionally, the Longhorns welcomed back starting quarterback Quinn Ewers, who had been out for five weeks due to an oblique strain. While it took a bit for him to find his rhythm, Ewers completed 20 out of 29 passes for a total of 199 yards, with two touchdowns and an interception in his return.
