Aidan Hutchinson Injury Update: Lions DE Breaks Tibia Against Cowboys

The Detroit Lions had a dominant victory over the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday, but a major injury hit their defense hard.

Lions’ standout defensive end Aidan Hutchinson suffered a serious leg injury during the third quarter of the Week 6 matchup. The injury happened when he sacked Dak Prescott and collided awkwardly with teammate Alim McNeill, leading to an awkward bend in his leg.

Hutchinson immediately clutched his leg after the fall. He removed his gloves and stayed on the ground while the team’s medical staff attended to him.

There was a lengthy delay in the game as Hutchinson remained on the field before finally being transported off in a cart to the locker room.

Teammates from both the Lions and Cowboys gathered around the cart to offer their support as he left the field.

Update on Aidan Hutchinson’s Injury

Shortly after the incident, the Lions declared Hutchinson out for the remainder of the game, labeling it a “lower leg injury.” Given the severity of the injury, this was not unexpected.

In a postgame press conference, Coach Dan Campbell confirmed that Hutchinson has suffered a broken tibia. He added that the Pro Bowler will remain in Dallas for further medical evaluation.

Campbell mentioned that Hutchinson is in “good hands” and that he will be “out for a little while,” but did not give a specific timeline for his recovery.

“It’s tough losing a player like him,” Campbell stated. “We’ll have more information soon and, of course, we hope for the best for him.”

Who Will Step In for Aidan Hutchinson on the Lions Roster?

The primary backup edge rusher for Hutchinson is Isaac Ukwu. James Houston is also on the team but was not active for this game against the Cowboys.

Prior to Hutchinson’s injury, the Lions were already facing depth issues on the edge, having lost free agent signing Marcus Davenport to a torn triceps earlier in the season. Now, they are left with only a few healthy edge rushers, including Ukwu and Josh Paschal.

In the upcoming weeks, the Lions will likely need to strengthen their edge rusher situation, especially given Hutchinson’s lengthy expected absence.

Aidan Hutchinson’s Performance Stats

Before exiting due to his injury, Hutchinson recorded one sack and three quarterback hits in the game against the Cowboys. He had entered Week 6 with a season total of 6.5 sacks, bringing that up to 7.5 after his performance against Dallas.
