Volvo recalls due to potential unintended acceleration
Volvo is recalling 2,098 of its 2022-2024 Volvo VN trucks. The luxury car brand stated in the NHTSA report that “when the Controller Area Network communications get interrupted while the vehicle is in limp mode, the accelerator pedal may send an incorrect signal, leading to unintended acceleration.” Such unexpected acceleration could heighten the risk of a crash, according to the report.
Additionally, the NHTSA indicated that the Volvo VN “does not meet the standards outlined in Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 124, ‘Accelerator Control Systems.’”
To address this issue, Volvo will update the electronic control unit software at no cost to the owners. Recall notification letters are anticipated to be sent by November 22. Owners can reach Volvo Customer Service at 1-800-528-6586. Volvo’s reference number for this recall is RVXX2408.

Dealers will conduct online evaluations, run diagnostics, and, if needed, replace the battery modules—all at no charge. Owners are advised to limit their vehicle charging to 80%. To resolve this issue, dealers will implement advanced diagnostic software, which is expected to be ready by early 2025.
Owners of the recalled vehicles are encouraged to limit their charging to 80% until the battery replacement can be performed.
