Belichick Unleashes Critique on Jets Owner Woody Johnson During MNF Showdown

Bill Belichick criticizes Jets owner Woody Johnson during ‘Monday Night Football’

Bill Belichick, the ex-head coach of the New England Patriots, openly expressed his discontent with the New York Jets’ choice to dismiss their head coach.

During his appearance on ESPN’s “ManningCast” for “Monday Night Football,” Belichick seemed to directly target Jets owner Woody Johnson regarding the firing of Robert Saleh.

“I’m not particularly fond of the Jets, in case you weren’t aware,” he told Peyton and Eli Manning while watching the Jets play against the Buffalo Bills. “You know what? Coach Saleh did a commendable job with that team ”

“That’s just how it’s gone for the Jets. They’ve only won about 30% of their games in the last decade. The owner, being who he is. it’s like ready, fire, aim.”

The Jets decided to fire Saleh following their 23-17 defeat to the Minnesota Vikings during Week 5 in London. This loss left the Jets with a 2-3 season record and a 20-36 (.357 winning percentage) over Saleh’s three and a half years as head coach.

The former 49ers defensive coordinator is the third head coach the Jets have dismissed since they ended their relationship with Rex Ryan in 2014. Todd Bowles (2015-2018), Adam Gase (2019-2020), and now Saleh have all been unable to keep their positions for more than four seasons.

New York has not made it to the playoffs since 2010 and boasts a record of 55-108 over the past decade (from 2014 to 2023). Their winning percentage during this period stands at .337.
