The surviving members of One Direction have shared their feelings following the tragic death of Liam Payne.

Harry Styles, Zayn Malik, Niall Horan, and Louis Tomlinson made a heartfelt joint announcement on One Direction’s official Instagram on Thursday after hearing about Payne’s unfortunate passing due to a fall from a balcony the previous day.

“We are utterly heartbroken by the news of Liam’s passing,” their statement began. “In due time, when we are all ready, we will share more. But right now, we will take some time to mourn and come to terms with the loss of our brother, whom we cherished deeply. The memories we’ve created together will always be held close to our hearts.”

Liam, who was 31, tragically lost his life after falling from his third-floor balcony at the Casa Sur hotel in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

The message wrapped up with: “For now, our thoughts are with his family, friends, and the fans who loved him just as we did. We will miss him dearly. We love you, Liam.”

According to Buenos Aires police, Payne suffered “extremely serious injuries” from the fall, and was declared dead at the scene, as reported by The Associated Press.

On Thursday, Argentina’s National Criminal and Correctional Prosecutor’s Office No. 16 released a statement revealing that Payne died from “polytrauma” and a combination of “internal and external hemorrhage.” The authorities are looking into the details surrounding his death, although they suspect he was alone at the moment of the incident.

“Liam, I’ve found myself speaking out loud to you, wishing you could hear me. It’s hard not to selfishly wish we had more conversations ahead of us,” Malik wrote in a painful tribute to Payne on Thursday.

“I never got the chance to properly thank you for being there for me during some of my toughest moments,” he recalled on Instagram, sharing a nostalgic photo of the two of them resting together in their youth. “When I was a 17-year-old feeling homesick, you were always there with your positive spirit and comforting smile, reminding me that you were my friend and that I loved you.”

Continuing with his heartfelt message, Malik said, “Despite being younger, you were always wiser, incredibly determined, and unafraid to speak your mind when others were wrong. We had our disagreements, but I always secretly respected you for that.”

“In matters of music, Liam, you were truly the most knowledgeable and skilled,” Malik continued. “I was a novice, while you were a seasoned pro.”

“I feel I’ve lost a brother with your departure, and I can’t find the words to express how much I’d give for just one last hug and a proper goodbye to tell you how much I loved and respected you. The memories we created together will remain in my heart forever. I am absolutely heartbroken right now,” he added.

“I hope that wherever you are now, you’re at peace and know how much you are loved. Love you, bro,” Malik, aged 31, concluded.

Louis Tomlinson remembers Liam Payne as the ‘kind brother I’d always wished for’

Tomlinson, 32, likewise shared a heartfelt tribute to his “brother,” Payne, on his Instagram account on Thursday.

“It breaks my heart to say this, but I lost a brother yesterday. Liam was someone I admired every day for his positivity, humor, and kindness,” he wrote. “I first met Liam when he was just 16, and I was 18. I was instantly struck by his voice, but more so I got to know the wonderful brotherly spirit I had always longed for.”

He remembered Payne as an “amazing songwriter with a fantastic sense of melody,” recalling how they often discussed “returning to the studio to recreate the incredible writing bond we built in the band.” Tomlinson labeled Payne as “the most essential part of One Direction” and praised him for “shaping us all.”

He continued, “This message goes to you, Liam, if you can hear me. I feel so fortunate to have known you, yet saying goodbye is incredibly difficult. I’m so thankful that we grew even closer after the band, enjoying long phone conversations reminiscing about our countless wonderful moments together — a luxury I thought I’d have for life. I wish we could share the stage one more time, but it’s not meant to be.”

The singer-songwriter vowed to look after Payne’s 7-year-old son: “I want you to know that if Bear ever needs me, I will be the uncle he deserves and share stories about how incredible his father was.”

“I deeply regret not having the chance to say goodbye and express once more how much I loved you,” he concluded.

One Direction has been on an indefinite break since 2016, following the release of their fifth album, “Made in the A.M.” All of the members, including Malik.

In March 2015, the group parted ways as members began to explore individual careers.
