Voting in Oregon: Your Essential Guide to Polling Places, Mail-in Deadlines, and More

With Election Day approaching on November 5, this is your comprehensive guide to voting in Oregon. For information specific to other states, click here.

Do I need to register to vote?

Yes, registering to vote is necessary in Oregon. If you’re unsure whether you’re already registered, you can verify your status via Oregon’s My Vote portal.

How can I register?

To register, you must be a U.S. citizen, at least 16 years old (you can’t vote until you turn 18), and a resident of Oregon. Oregon provides online registration. To register, you need an Oregon driver’s license, permit, or ID card number. If you lack these documents, you can still register online but must print out a voter registration card to send to your county elections office. Alternatively, you can fill out a paper voter registration form and send it to your county elections office instead of registering online.

What’s the registration deadline?

New voters must register by 11:59 p.m. PST, 21 days before the election.

How do I locate my polling place?

You can find your ballot drop site through the My Vote portal.

Is mail voting an option?

Yes, Oregon has been using mail-in voting for the past two decades. Registered voters will receive voter pamphlets and ballots by mail two to three weeks prior to each statewide election. You can return your ballot by mail or drop it off at any official drop box in the state.

When is the last day I can submit my ballot?

Mail-in ballots must be postmarked on Election Day and can arrive up to seven days after Election Day.

Can I track my ballot?

You can check the status of your ballot on the My Vote portal. Some counties also provide ballot tracking, notifying voters via text, phone, or email.

What should I do if I need assistance getting to the polling site?

Since Oregon is an all vote-by-mail state, you can mail back your ballot if you can’t drop it off at a drop box. If you are a student studying out of state or traveling during the election, you can request an absentee ballot using the absentee ballot request form.
