Roc Nation Expands Role in NFL with Ongoing Super Bowl Halftime Performer Selections

Jay-Z’s Roc Nation to keep selecting Super Bowl halftime acts in NFL collaboration

Roc Nation and the NFL have renewed their partnership.

The entertainment enterprise established by Jay-Z will carry on with the production of the Super Bowl halftime show, as confirmed by YSL News via a source with knowledge of the matter who cannot speak publicly. Specifics of the agreement have yet to be revealed.

The multiyear alliance was first announced in 2019 by NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell and Jay-Z, with Roc Nation taking the role of the NFL’s live music entertainment strategist as part of the league’s Inspire Change initiative. This initiative emphasizes the league’s social justice activities and emerged in response to the controversial treatment of former player Colin Kaepernick, who protested police brutality by kneeling during the national anthem in the 2016 season.

“It’s been a very positive partnership for both sides,” Goodell informed Bloomberg, the first to break this news. “I don’t think either of us spends much time discussing contracts. Jay is satisfied. (Roc Nation CEO) Desiree Perez is content. I’m happy, so everything is good.”

Through the collaboration with Roc Nation, the halftime shows have highlighted artists like: Shakira and Jennifer Lopez; The Weeknd; Dr. Dre with Snoop Dogg, Eminem, Mary J. Blige, Kendrick Lamar, 50 Cent, and Anderson .Paak; Rihanna; and, most recently, Usher, who performed alongside Alicia Keys, H.E.R., Will.i.am, Lil Jon, Jermaine Dupri, and Ludacris.

Kendrick Lamar was announced in September as the headliner for the 2025 Apple Music Super Bowl halftime show. Super Bowl LIX is set for February 9, 2025, at Caesars Superdome in New Orleans.

Meanwhile, the Inspire Change initiative has allocated $55 million in grants to various social justice organizations, and team donations have exceeded $248 million for nonprofit organizations focused on social change, according to the NFL.
