Majestic Winter Wonderland: Yellowstone National Park Transformed by Fall Snowstorm

Experience the breathtaking fall snowstorm in Yellowstone National Park

Although a fall snowstorm led to some road closures, visitors at the Wyoming park enjoyed its stunning beauty on Friday morning when snowfall continued but the roads remained clear.

A fall snowstorm swept through Yellowstone National Park late Thursday and early Friday, transforming it into a picturesque winter landscape for visitors who marveled at the glistening white scenery, encountered bison up close, and witnessed the iconic Old Faithful geyser erupt.

The Grand Prismatic Spring, the world’s third-largest hot spring and a premier attraction at Yellowstone, looked especially enchanting as the gray skies toned down its vibrant colors and thick steam enveloped the area.

Some guests at the park’s entrance in West Yellowstone, Montana, waited nearly an hour, eager to witness the snowy scenery. Many pulled over in no-parking zones to catch sight of a distant elk herd and watched two enormous bison grazing nearby, seemingly unfazed by the onlookers snapping photos.

As expected, clusters of people gathered near the Old Faithful lookout, braving the cold as they awaited the geyser’s eruption, which was well worth the wait.

The snow didn’t linger long in the park’s thermal regions, where ground temperatures are warmer, and by late afternoon, much of the snow covering trees and meadows had melted away, leaving those who arrived early feeling fortunate to have seen the winter wonderland.

“Didn’t it look stunning all covered in snow?” exclaimed a visitor from Southern California while taking a photo in front of a park sign during their visit.

Indeed, it was beautiful. Come see for yourself.
