Incredible dog climbs ancient pyramid in Egypt, capturing hearts online

Social media users expressed amazement at how the dog managed to scale and descend the towering 448-foot pyramid built from massive stones. Many appreciated the pure simplicity of its adventure in this historic location.

A video showcasing a dog climbing to the summit of one of Egypt’s Great Pyramids has gone viral.

The adventurous dog made its way to the top of the 448-foot high Pyramid of Khafre, one of the three famed pyramids at Giza. Despite rules against climbing the pyramids, this intrepid dog was undeterred.

Marshall Mosher, a paraglider and content creator, first noticed the solitary dog barking at birds from the peak of Khafre while he and his fellow paragliders soared over the pyramids last week.

“Yesterday while flying, we encountered something unexpected,” Marshall shared in a video posted on Wednesday. “There’s a dog at the top of the Pyramid of Khafre. I have no idea how it reached there because the stones are 6 to 8 feet tall and I’m not sure how it plans to get down.”

Paraglider goes back to find the dog

Mosher decides to return in search of the dog, hoping for a rescue.

“It’s against the law to climb the pyramids, but we can at least fly over and check if it’s still up there,” Mosher explained. “Let’s find this dog.”

By the time Mosher took to the skies early the next morning, the dog had disappeared, leading him to believe it had safely made its way down. Another video later emerged showing a similar-looking dog carefully descending the steps.

It remains uncertain whether the dog seen at the top and the one filmed down below were the same, as hundreds of stray dogs wander the pyramid complex, particularly near the base, according to Mosher in an interview with CNN Travel.

Mosher has also been “actively seeking animal shelters in Cairo to help these strays find safer and more suitable homes,” as reported by CNN Travel.

Dog’s incredible climb ignites online excitement

Mosher’s initial post about the dog garnered millions of views almost instantly and continued to spread across various platforms, collecting even more views.

Mosher conveyed his surprise at the overwhelming interest in the dog’s adventure to CNN Travel.

“I thought flying over the pyramids would be somewhat interesting news, but it turns out no one cared about that,” Mosher, an experienced paraglider over the Great Pyramids, remarked to CNN Travel.

People were far more intrigued by the dog and the mystery of how it ascended and descended the pyramid, with many captivated by the straightforward beauty of its journey to a historic site.

“I’m getting unreasonably emotional thinking about this dog climbing THE great pyramid of Giza, a symbol of history and importance, completely unaware of it … merely to bark at birds,” one commenter shared. “Animals bring such simple yet profound joy.”

Here are some of the top responses from the internet:

Some viewers speculated that the dog might represent “the physical embodiment of Anubis, the ancient Egyptian god of the afterlife often depicted with a jackal’s head.”

“I understand why the dog wanted to climb; it certainly offers the best view for a stray dog in Cairo that I can imagine,” Mosher added to CNN Travel.
