Ariana Grande expresses regret over Elvira incident: ‘I feel so sad’

Ariana Grande has issued a public apology to Cassandra Peterson following the actress’s recounting of an unpleasant encounter with the singer from several years ago.

In a video making the rounds on the internet, Peterson, famously known as Elvira, discussed her most memorable negative experience with a celebrity during a panel discussion, cleverly hinting at Grande by saying the singer’s name “rhymes with Pariana Mande.”

She recounted how the “We Can’t Be Friends” singer had asked for 20 tickets to an Elvira show for her loved ones and requested Peterson, now 73, to sign autographs and pose for photos with all of them backstage. When Peterson requested a picture with the 31-year-old Grande, she stated that the singer declined, saying, “No, I don’t really do that,” which drew boos from the audience, as captured in the video. Peterson noted that Grande departed before the show began, leaving behind her friends and family.

Grande responded to Peterson’s Instagram post from Monday, where she shared the video, to clarify her perspective.

“I’m so disheartened to hear this. I honestly don’t even recall meeting you because I had an anxiety attack and, to my memory, I left before my family (this was about 7 years ago, and at that time I really struggled with being in public gatherings or loud environments)…” she explained. “But if my memory of this moment is incorrect, I truly apologize for upsetting you.”

Grande’s comments may reference the aftermath of the tragic bombing at her 2017 Manchester concert that resulted in 22 fatalities. The Grammy-winning artist has spoken candidly about how traumatic that period was for her.

“Thank you for being so kind to my mom; she mentioned how sweet you were (though she might feel differently now, and I will discuss that with her… we all have our off days!)” she added. “You’ll always reign as our queen of Halloween!”

YSL News has reached out to representatives of both Peterson and Grande for their statements.

Peterson is renowned for her portrayal of Elvira, Mistress of the Dark, in the 1980s TV series “Elvira’s Movie Macabre,” as well as in the 1988 movie “Elvira: Mistress of the Dark” and the 2001 film “Elvira’s Haunted Hills.”
