Alvin Kamara contract extension: Saints, star RB agree to new two-year deal

The top offensive player for the New Orleans Saints is set to remain in the city for a few more years.

Star running back Alvin Kamara has finalized a new two-year deal worth $24.5 million with the Saints, according to a source familiar with the agreement who wished to remain anonymous until the deal is officially announced.

This contract extension will keep Kamara with New Orleans until the end of the 2026 season.

This season, the dynamic running back has recorded 438 rushing yards, six rushing touchdowns, 34 catches, 252 receiving yards, and one touchdown reception.

Kamara stands out as one of the greatest running backs in the history of the Saints franchise. He holds the record for yards from scrimmage (10,738) and ranks first with 60 rushing touchdowns. His career rushing yards total of 6,267 places him second in the team’s history, and he is just 233 yards away from setting the franchise record for rushing yards.

The Saints selected Kamara in the third round of the 2017 NFL Draft. He was named NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year during his inaugural season and has been chosen for five Pro Bowls since then. Throughout his first seven seasons with the Saints, he has surpassed 1,100 scrimmage yards each year.

Before the regular season began, Kamara expressed his desire for a new contract. He even left the team’s mandatory minicamp early due to ongoing contract discussions.

“I want to be a Saint. You know what I’m saying? I want to retire here,” Kamara told the media in July. “If I got to play football somewhere else, I’ll probably be somewhere with my feet kicked up in Africa somewhere, or something like that.”

With this new two-year contract, Kamara will remain a Saint and will not be relaxing on another continent.
