John Dutton Returns: A New Chapter Unfolds in the Latest ‘Yellowstone’ Trailer Amid Kevin Costner’s Departure

New ‘Yellowstone’ trailer features John Dutton despite Kevin Costner’s departure

In the exciting new trailer released on Tuesday for the second half of “Yellowstone” Season 5, John Dutton declares, “This war is only getting started.”

His appearance is noteworthy as Kevin Costner, who has portrayed the Dutton family leader since the show’s debut in 2018, officially announced in June that he would not reprise his role and film scenes to exit the series.

Although Costner’s Dutton shows up in previously recorded footage, he plays a significant role in the new trailer, aimed at enticing viewers ahead of the show’s Paramount Network premiere on November 10 (at 8 PM EST/PST), with CBS airing the premiere at 10 PM EST/PST.

The trailer opens with Costner’s Dutton stating, “Everyone’s forgotten who runs this valley. It’s time to remind them,” as the 90-second clip unfolds.

Scenes showcasing Dutton’s family, who will continue to fight for their land, flash by, highlighting key characters like Beth Dutton (Kelly Reilly) and Rip Wheeler (Cole Hauser), who are set to take the helm of the “Yellowstone” storyline moving forward.

“Our family legacy revolves around this ranch,” Beth asserts.

“And I’ll defend it with my life,” Rip vows.

However, adversaries are closing in, including the distant son Jamie Dutton (Wes Bentley) and his partner, the political strategist Sarah Atwood (Dawn Olivieri).

“The only option left is to kill as much as possible before they kill you,” Beth Dutton concludes the trailer.

Following a lengthy dispute over payments and filming schedules between creator Taylor Sheridan and Paramount Studios, intensified by Costner’s ambitious “Horizon” movie series and Sheridan’s expansive TV projects, Costner definitively ruled out any possibility of returning to “Yellowstone” through an unexpected video on June 20.

In a personal address on social media, the Academy Award winner for “Dances with Wolves” stated, “I just wanted to inform you that I will not be returning.”

“I wanted to complete this matter,” Costner explained to YSL News after releasing the video.

His first film in the “Horizon” series, “Horizon: An American Saga — Chapter 1,” debuted on June 28. The film, featuring Costner alongside Sienna Miller and Sam Worthington, performed poorly at the box office. A planned release for the second chapter has since been postponed indefinitely.
