Tia Mowry Opens Up About the Challenges of Being Compared to Her Twin Sister Tamera: ‘It Can Be Scary’

Tia Mowry discusses reactions to remarks about twin sister Tamera: ‘Fear sets in’

It’s simply a “Sister, Sister” matter.

Tia Mowry has shared her feelings regarding comments she made about her bond with twin sister Tamera Mowry-Housley, which gained attention after she expressed a desire for them to be “still close.”

In the inaugural episode of her new reality docuseries “Tia Mowry: My Next Act,” released earlier this month, the actress talked about feeling lonely following her 2023 divorce from Cory Hardrict, stating: “There are times when I wish my sister and I were still close.”

During the episode, the “The Game” star remarked that their relationship has evolved since they now reside in different cities and have their own families. However, the lack of complete context led to a heightened reaction among fans.

Mowry noted that she wasn’t taken aback by the public’s response. “That’s just part of being in this field,” she told YSL News.

She believes that fans hold on to the image of the twins as being inseparable.

“Audiences got to know us as a pair. It’s ingrained in their minds,” she said, referring to their popular 1990s sitcom. Hence, when they hear a remark that signals a shift in their relationship, she believes, “Fear sets in, and they jump to negative conclusions.”

She also indicated that some of the backlash might be due to people’s personal discomfort.

“Often, people project their own anxieties and past experiences onto others without truly understanding the situation,” she elaborated. “I get it; people will interpret things as they wish, sometimes jumping to worst-case scenarios. It’s a fear reaction.”

“While I can’t speak for her, we’ve discussed it, and she is not taken aback. This is something that happens often in this industry, and you develop tough skin as a result,” she stated. “Having been in this field for a long time, we are accustomed to things being misconstrued.”
