Alec Baldwin’s Involuntary Manslaughter Charge Dismissal Gets Judicial Backing

Alec Baldwin’s involuntary manslaughter charge dismissal affirmed by judge

A judge in New Mexico has maintained the dismissal of Alec Baldwin’s involuntary manslaughter charge related to the tragic shooting on the set of “Rust.”

Judge Mary Marlowe Sommer’s ruling, reported widely on Friday, stated that prosecutors did not present any valid factual or legal reasons that would cause her to change her previous ruling, as noted in documents reviewed by YSL News.

“Since the state’s revised motion brings up points already discussed, as well as issues that the state chose not to raise before, the court does not see the revised motion as valid,” the judge stated in her ruling. She pointed out the “untimeliness” of the prosecutors’ actions, as they submitted an amended motion outside the allowable timeframe for an appeal.

The amended motion was filed by prosecutors on September 5.

YSL News has reached out to get a statement from Baldwin’s representative.

The involuntary manslaughter charge against Baldwin connected to the 2021 shooting of “Rust” cinematographer Halyna Hutchins was initially dismissed by the judge in July. This decision was made because the prosecution and law enforcement allegedly withheld evidence that could have helped Baldwin’s defense.

Sommer’s unexpected ruling came on the third day of the actor’s trial.

She dismissed the charge permanently, meaning that prosecutors cannot bring the same charge against Baldwin again. At that moment, Baldwin, 66, was seen emotionally collapsing into his hands as the judge announced her decision, while his wife, Hilaria Baldwin, sister Elizabeth Keuchler, and brother Stephen Baldwin leaned forward in their seats behind him.

Recently, Baldwin has started to make a comeback in the entertainment industry.

In June, TLC revealed plans for a reality series featuring Baldwin and his family, described as one of Hollywood’s most talked-about couples with their seven children. The show promises “constant love, laughter, and drama,” according to a press release from the network.

“The Baldwins,” which is set to premiere in 2025, will showcase the family’s life with their seven growing kids,” the network shared.

Baldwin also made an appearance on NBC recently. The “30 Rock” actor guest-starred on “Saturday Night Live” last week, portraying Bret Baier in a parody sketch mimicking Baier’s interview with Vice President Kamala Harris, played by Maya Rudolph. In the skit, Baier was depicted as overly hostile, frequently interrupting Harris with difficult questions.
