Freddie Freeman’s Grand Slam: ‘A Legendary Baseball Moment’
LOS ANGELES — It was reminiscent of moments from Kirk Gibson.
It echoed scenes from Roy Hobbs in “The Natural.”
It felt like something straight out of classic Hollywood.
“It might be,” said Dodgers manager Dave Roberts, “the greatest baseball moment I’ve ever witnessed.”
Just a week prior, Freddie Freeman could hardly walk due to a severe ankle sprain. He had also stepped away for personal reasons this summer while his 3-year-old son was facing health challenges. Yet, on Friday night, in front of a thrilling crowd of 52,394, he delivered one of the most memorable moments in World Series history.
With a single swing, Freeman etched his name into the history books with a walk-off grand slam in the 10th inning, securing a 6-3 win against the New York Yankees in Game 1 of the World Series.
