Shohei Ohtani injury update: Dodgers star dislocates shoulder during World Series Game 2
LOS ANGELES – The lively atmosphere at Dodger Stadium on Saturday night turned serious when superstar Shohei Ohtani injured his shoulder while attempting to slide into second base during a stolen base attempt in the seventh inning.
After the game, Dodgers manager Dave Roberts reported that Ohtani experienced a partial dislocation of his left shoulder and would undergo further medical evaluations on Sunday.
“We’re optimistic,” Roberts stated following the Dodgers’ 4-2 victory in Game 2 of the World Series.
Ohtani was on the ground for a few moments and had to leave the game with a trainer, who helped him as he couldn’t lift his arm after sliding to avoid a tag from New York Yankees shortstop Anthony Volpe.
With this win, the Dodgers lead the series 2-0, heading to New York for Game 3 on Monday.
When asked if Ohtani might be sidelined for the remainder of the series, Roberts mentioned that he hasn’t considered that scenario yet but is “hoping (Ohtani) will be available.”
This season, Ohtani, a historic talent known as the only player in Major League Baseball to hit 50 home runs and steal 50 bases in a single season, has focused solely on hitting duties and has largely avoided injuries. He had just received a two-out walk in the bottom of the seventh but was caught stealing by Yankees catcher Austin Wells.
