‘Home Improvement’ star Zachery Ty Bryan arrested for DUI in Oklahoma

The actor previously faced DUI charges earlier this year, resulting in a felony charge.

Just eight months after his last DUI arrest, Zachery Ty Bryan is confronted with additional legal issues.

The former “Home Improvement” star was taken into custody by the Oklahoma Highway Patrol over the weekend for suspected DUI, as confirmed by YSL News through Custer County Jail records. Alongside the DUI charge, he was also found to be driving without a valid license.

After being booked on Friday morning, Bryan is still in custody at Custer County Jail, according to Latasha Goodman from the Custer County Sheriff’s Office. His bond is set at $25,000 for the DUI charge, plus an additional $500 for the lack of a driver’s license.

YSL News has attempted to contact the Oklahoma Highway Patrol for further details. Bryan’s representatives were not available for comment at the time of this report.

Bryan has an arraignment scheduled for Monday afternoon.

Earlier this year, in February, Bryan was arrested in California by the La Quinta Sheriff’s Station after deputies stopped a vehicle linked to a traffic collision. Authorities reported that they noticed signs of impairment which led to his DUI arrest.

A month later, he was charged with a felony due to a prior DUI conviction within the past ten years, as detailed in the court records accessed by YSL News. The recent arrest represents Bryan’s fifth DUI charge and his second felony offense if found guilty, according to Custer County Jail documents.

Zachery Ty Bryan’s ongoing legal issues

This latest DUI arrest adds to a series of legal challenges faced by the former child star, known for his role as Brad Taylor on the popular sitcom led by Tim Allen from 1991 to 1999.

In 2020, Bryan had a prior arrest for domestic violence and was convicted on two counts, followed by another domestic violence arrest in July 2023. The Eugene Police Department reported that he was booked in Lane County Jail on a charge of fourth-degree assault after officers responded to a report of a physical altercation.

Last year, Bryan pleaded guilty to felony fourth-degree assault after negotiating a plea that included the dismissal of an additional count of felony assault. He was sentenced to only a week in jail along with 36 months of supervised probation.

He was also mandated to have no contact with the victim without prior approval from the probation officer, be treated for alcohol and substance abuse under the probation officer’s guidance, and refrain from alcohol and drug use.

In a June 2023 interview, Bryan’s TV father, Tim Allen, shared his feelings regarding Bryan’s legal challenges. “I’m not certain what’s happening with him,” Allen remarked. “Zach is a wonderful kid who has matured into a complicated individual. You can only step back and allow someone to navigate their own journey.”

Allen further commented: “At some point, he transformed from the person I knew into someone reacting to circumstances that I had no part in and cannot control.”
