The Family of Philadelphia Union Goalie Holden Trent Wishes for His Organ Donation Legacy to Last
The relatives of Holden Trent, the goalkeeper for the Philadelphia Union, believe that his legacy will continue through his decision to become an organ donor.
Before his passing last Saturday at just 25 years old, Trent had informed his family about his choice to register as an organ donor.
On Sunday, Trent’s family, along with his management at Octagon, announced that the organ donation process is already underway.
In a statement, they noted, “Holden Trent’s choice to become a registered organ donor was an act of selflessness he took pride in. His remarkable generosity now serves as a source of hope for many families, as the organ donation process begins, granting a precious gift of life to those in need.”
“Holden’s decision to become an organ donor illustrates his caring and generous character. His family finds great solace in knowing his legacy will carry on by saving lives. This gift of life reinforces the profound influence of one individual’s kindness in the world.”
Trent’s family and the Philadelphia Union have not revealed the details surrounding his cause of death. Both the Union and Major League Soccer have released statements acknowledging his death on Saturday.
In their statement, the Philadelphia Union expressed, “We are heartbroken by the loss of Holden Trent. He was not only an exceptional player and competitor, but also a caring son, brother, fiancé, and teammate who uplifted those around him. His spirit of determination, commitment, and resilience will be profoundly missed. Our deepest condolences go out to his family, fiancé, and friends.”
“Major League Soccer stands alongside the Philadelphia Union and the entire soccer community in mourning the sudden loss of goalkeeper Holden Trent. A talented young player with a promising future, he displayed unwavering determination and professionalism as part of Philadelphia’s close-knit goalkeeping team,” said the league in their statement. “We extend our heartfelt condolences to his fiancée, family and friends, teammates, and the entire Union fan base. MLS is working with the club to provide support for players and families during this difficult period.”
