Oregon Soars to No. 1 Spot as College Football Playoff Takes Shape With SEC Contenders on the Rise

This Week’s Bowl Predictions: Oregon Takes the Lead Over Georgia, Two SEC Teams Enter Playoff Picture

The top-ranked team in the US LBM Coaches Poll is now leading the College Football Playoff rankings in the YSL News Sports bowl projections for this week.

Oregon has maintained its position at the top since Georgia’s defeat of Texas in Week 8. Previously, the Bulldogs were considered the top seed based on the expectation that Ohio State would emerge as the Big Ten champion, but that prospect changed after the Buckeyes had a tough game against Nebraska, allowing Oregon to remain unbeaten and climb to the first spot.

Significant changes also occurred with the entry of two SEC teams into the playoff picture. Texas A&M has made its way into the 12-team playoff field after defeating LSU. Additionally, Tennessee has improved its chances and looks set to achieve at least 10 wins this season. Unfortunately, both LSU and the currently inactive Iowa State have dropped out of contention. Despite their unbeaten record, the Cyclones face an uphill battle to stay strong in the Big 12 and lack the high-quality wins that Texas A&M and Tennessee possess.

This is the current state as we head into November. However, the last full month of the season often raises the stakes for those in contention, increasing pressure to perform and leading to potential surprises. Expect further changes as the month progresses.

Note: Former Pac-12 teams that are now in different conferences will still honor existing bowl agreements through the 2025 season.
