126,000 Volvo Trucks Recalled Due to Issues with Electronic Control Units: Find Out Which Models Are Affected

Volvo Trucks has announced a recall involving several trucks from 2020 to 2025 due to problems with the electronic control units (ECUs).

This recall was communicated to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) on October 23 and made public on Monday, affecting a total of 126,649 trucks.

The specific models involved in the recall are the 2020-2025 VN, VAH, VHD, and VNRE trucks that utilize Bendix EC-80 Advanced Electronic Control Units. Issues such as electrical noise and weak signals can cause these units to misinterpret commands or fail entirely.

How to Determine If Your Truck Is Affected by the Recall

To see if your truck is part of this recall, visit the NHTSA website at nhtsa.gov/recalls.

In the recall search box, you can enter your vehicle’s license plate number, VIN, or the year, make, and model of your truck. A list of relevant recalls will appear.

You can also reach out to the Volvo Trucks customer service at 1-800-528-6586; the recall number for this case is RVXX2409.

Notification letters will be sent to owners by December 13.

What Role Do Electronic Control Units Play?

The Bendix EC-80 Advanced Electronic Control Unit enhances the braking performance of heavy- and medium-duty trucks, according to Bendix.

What Is a VIN and Where Can You Find It?

Every vehicle has a unique VIN or Vehicle Identification Number. This 17-character identifier is usually found on the left side of a vehicle’s windshield, on the driver’s side door, or inside the vehicle at the point where the driver’s side door closes.

What Steps to Take if Your Truck Is Recalled?

If your truck is included in the recall, make sure to arrange an appointment with a local Volvo dealership. The dealership will update the unit’s software at no cost to you.
